Kalaya, a medically directed, health and wellness brand from Cambridge Ontario, joined the collective effort in manufacturing sanitizer earlier this year. Now, they're trusted and relied upon by hospitals, first responders, teachers and municipalities in Ontario and across Canada.

Kalaya is owned and operated by Avaria Health and Beauty Corp., one of the most technologically advanced, efficacy based, health and wellness product manufacturers in Canada.

Supporting Ontario Hospitals
Kalaya began supplying hospitals in the community with their Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer with Hyaluronic Acid after being made aware of the problems local hospitals were facing.

USP-Grade vs. Technical-Grade Ethanol
Technical-grade ethanol has gained increased attention in recent months amid health concerns and product recalls. In Kitchener-Waterloo, local hospitals refused to use sanitizers containing the ingredient, and more recently Health Canada has recalled six sanitizers containing technical-grade ethanol, citing that "the industrial-grade ethanol found in the products is not authorized for use in hand sanitizers and may contain impurities".

USP-grade (United States Pharmacopeia) ethyl alcohol on the other hand is designed for food, drug and medicinal use and therefore has fewer impurities than technical-grade ethanol. It is the safest and preferred alcohol-type for sanitizers. As a medically directed brand Kalaya has not, and will not, use technical-grade ethanol. Their Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer with Hyaluronic Acid is formulated with 70% USP medical grade ethyl alcohol.

Kalaya's 15-year background supplying health and wellness products has led to strong connections with suppliers, so they’ve been able to procure USP-grade ethanol domestically, despite shortages. As a result, hospitals in the region were able to halt the use of hand sanitizers that contain technical-grade ethanol.

Addressing the problem of dry skin
In addition to using 70% USP-grade ethyl alcohol, Kalaya's unique formulation, designed by Canadian medical professionals, Dr. Keith Burk M.D. and pharmacist Phil Hudson B.Pharm, is made with Hyaluronic Acid.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance that intensely hydrates the skin and locks in moisture. Unlike most hand sanitizers, Kalaya's formulation is enhanced with Hyaluronic Acid which means that it helps to hydrate your skin and prevent dryness. It’s addressing a real problem where people who are in this new routine of hand-washing and sanitizing multiple times a day are having issues with skin dryness.
